Section 1: Name

There shall be a society that shall produce a Trinity College newsletter, the name of which shall be “Travisty”.

Section 2: Objectives

  1. To provide budding editors, journalists, photographers and artists within Trinity with an outlet for their creative expression.
  2. To provide TCSU, its affiliated societies, and college officials with an informal means of communication with the student body.
  3. To these ends, to produce a newsletter for circulation amongst the Trinity student body.

Section 3: Membership

  1. Membership will be granted upon application to the Editor and President of the society. A list of current members, their e-mail addresses and their areas of interest will be kept. Upon application, members agree to the society holding their information and passing it on to subsequent Travisty committee members.
  2. All members will be entitled to vote in elections and to vote in referenda.
  3. Free membership application will be open to members in statu pupillari at Trinity College.
  4. Only members of the society will be permitted to contribute to the newsletter.
  5. Honorary membership may be granted at the Committee’s discretion.
  6. A small fee set by the Editor and President will be charged to any person(s) outside of Trinity College should they wish to become a member of the society.

Section 4: Committee and Responsibilities

The committee will consist of the following positions:
  1. Editor and President
  2. Deputy-Editor and Treasurer
  3. Senior Treasurer
  4. Features Editor and Secretary
  5. Sports and Activities Editor
  6. Webmaster
  7. Photographer
Responsibilities:
  1. Editor and President: to oversee and organise the compilation, publication and distribution of the newsletter; to direct the activities of the other members of the committee; to liaise with representatives of TCSU; to liaise with the Senior Treasurer; to act as the Returning Officer for the election procedure of new committee members; to apply for funding from Amalgamated Clubs; to have the final say in the event that the committee is unable to reach a majority view on any matter.
  2. Deputy Editor and Treasurer: to assist the Editor and President in their above duties; to record all transactions and maintain a good set of accounts and assets list; to present accounts and assets list to the Senior Treasurer; to liaise with the society’s bank; to oversee change of signatories when necessary; to present the accounts to the committee at the Annual General Meeting (AGM); to liaise with sponsors/ find funding for printing.
  3. Senior Treasurer: to act as a non-executive member of the Committee; to act as a signatory to the society’s bank account; s/he shall be a fellow of Trinity College. The Senior Treasurer shall not be liable for any debt or other obligation of Travisty, except where he or she has personally authorised it in writing.
  4. Features Editor and Secretary: to record the minutes of official meetings and distribute them to committee members via e-mail; to receive, edit and report on articles of interest; to liaise with contributors and support the senior members of the committee.
  5. Sports and Activities Editor: to receive, edit and report on college sporting activities; to liaise and consult with representatives of other college societies and compile their contributions; to create games and competitions for the newsletter; to support the senior members of the committee.
  6. Webmaster: to publish the newsletter on the website www.travisty.co.uk; to maintain the website and keep it up-to-date; to maintain e-mail lists; to operate and maintain any computing equipment owned by the society; to maintain registration of the web address.
  7. Photographer: to provide editors with photographs appropriate to their articles.

Section 5: Elections

  1. The Returning Officer will normally be the outgoing President unless the Executive committee decides otherwise. In this case they shall appoint another member of the Travisty Committee. The returning officer shall be responsible for the good conduct of elections.
  2. Only members of the society will be entitled to vote.
  3. Only full members of TCSU may stand for a committee position.
  4. Elections for all committee posts will take place annually at the AGM in Lent Term, which will be announced with five days' notice.
  5. Nominations for post with the names of the proposer and the seconder must be delivered to the President before midnight the day prior to the elections.
  6. Elections will take place by means of a secret ballot.
  7. The candidate with the greatest number of votes shall be elected.
  8. The count shall immediately follow the close of the ballot and be public. The result shall be announced immediately after the completion of the count.
  9. In the event of a tie, the outgoing Editor and President shall have the casting vote.
  10. The incoming committee will be responsible for the first issue after the AGM.
  11. If a member of the committee is unable to fulfil their obligations, a by-election will be held to fill their role.
  12. If a member of the committee fails to attend two consecutive official meetings of the society, without sending apologies, they will be deemed to have resigned.

Section 6: Indemnity

Every member of Travisty shall be entitled to be indemnified out of the assets of Travisty against all losses or liability which s/he may sustain or incur in the course of their office or otherwise in relation thereto. Provided that nothing in this clause shall affect their liability for the consequences of any negligent act on their part.

Section 7: Alterations To The Constitution

Alterations to the constitution must be submitted and approved by the Committee, and passed by a majority at an open meeting, to be called with a minimum of two days’ notice. They shall be voted on by a show of hands.

Section 8: Interpretation

Any question which may arise as to the interpretation of the constitution, or as to the resolution of any problem not apparently covered by the constitution’s provisions shall be determined by the Editor and President, after consultation with the Committee.
